Your Last Sanding Block - How to Make the Amazing No Snag Sanding Block
Get the free 3D print files for the No Snag sanding Block at 3D OCD:
www.youtube.com/@3DOCD
I designed the sanding block based on the full sheet sandpaper holder I made 2 years ago and you can watch that video here:
ruclips.net/video/7-g2RwFEjIk/видео.html
I call this the No-Snag Sanding Block and after I 3d printed it I figured I should make it from wood as well. It holds the sandpaper securely and is compact and the ergonomic grip makes it more comfortable to use than a standard sanding block because it keeps you wrist straight.

Mission Impossible: 3D Printed Band Saw Wheel
Просмотров 78 тыс.21 день назад
Check out 3D OCD! www.youtube.com/@3DOCD The next band saw challenge is to make probably the most complex and intimidating parts on a homemade machine, the wheel. It has to be: - precise and a 3D printer can do that easily - balanced which is hard to do with wood (but easy with 3D printing) - have a slight crown on the rim to make the blade track properly. Again easy to design in with a 3D prin...
High Tech meets Traditional Woodworking - They Become Close Friends
Просмотров 191 тыс.28 дней назад
A buddy film - the perfect pairing of old school woodworking and new school 3D printing. 3D printing makes the hard-to-do a snap, like fixing my tail vise so that it turns the right way. And I have no doubt the fix is strong enough and will last for many years to come. Watch how I build the workbench here: ruclips.net/video/ulZf1GTcWlk/видео.html There will be a strong mix of 3D printing in my ...
He Said You Can't 3D Print a Band Saw... I Said Hold My Beer
Просмотров 265 тыс.Месяц назад
I have no doubt that a band saw can be made with 3d printed parts - all it would take is the right amount of testing and trial and error to determine how strong the parts need to be. Of course it couldn't entirely made from 3d printed parts, but then a wooden band saw isn't 100% wood either. You would add metal where you need more concentrated strength, like screws, shafts, bolts and bearings. ...
What Happens When You Give A Carpenter A 3D Printer?
Просмотров 179 тыс.2 месяца назад
Short answer: good things happen! This is literally a game changer for someone who can use it as a tool for designing and testing projects. The printer I settled on was from #bambulab the P1P model and I've been using it every day for the last month, sometimes 5 times per day! To use it to it's full potential I've also been learning FreeCad. Powerful FREE software, but a steep learning curve. I...
Too Many Tips to List in this Build - Small Parts Organizer
Просмотров 95 тыс.4 месяца назад
Maybe not genius, exactly, but there are some neat ideas in this build. It started out as a simple, easy to make parts organizer, then blossomed into one that's quite a bit more complex. The big one is making the drawers full extension and the compact mechanism that I came up with to do that. The same could be done for larger drawers and I'll have to try that in a future project. Making the dra...
A Modern Twist On An Old Carpenters Trick - Cut Joints Perfectly in One Pass
Просмотров 414 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Back in the handsaw days, if a carpenter or woodworker needed a joint to fit together perfectly, he would recut the joint with the two parts put together. That made it so that the cut would be mirrored on both pieces, so they would line up accurately after the cut was made. This simple sled does that on the table saw, holding two parts firmly in place for the cut. I also made 45 degree fences t...
Well This Is Embarrassing... Fixing Mistakes and Upgrading... Already
Просмотров 40 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Sometimes I rush into a project and the results are less than optimal. The first clue is that I make more mistakes than I usually do and that's due to a lack of detail planning. The second is I don't build-in the features I originally thought of because my overall confidence in the project was low while building it (and making so many mistakes). Most of the stuff you'll see on RUclips is made t...
Throw Away Your Miter Saw and Make this Instead
Просмотров 86 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Of course I'm not getting rid of my miter saw, but this is a good alternative to use on the table saw. And yes, you can buy one of these ready made (and you saw may have come with one), but this is more about the methods I used to build it than the final product. Accuracy - you can dial it in to perfection at several angles (0, 22.5, 45 both ways) and then drill a locking pin hole through the p...
Essential Upgrade Cheap, Fast and Easy
Просмотров 184 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Throw away the metal tables that came with your planer and do this instead. Seriously, it's way better - a true upgrade. Before I made the original, I had a serious problem during the winter with slipping on the feed rollers. Turned out the smooth, polished metal bed of the planer had too much friction and the feed rollers couldn't grip the stock well enough to push it through. Changing to the ...
Making a Floating Banquette - Full Build Video
Просмотров 52 тыс.7 месяцев назад
My house is small and doesn't have a formal dining area. However, there is space in the fairly large kitchen to put a small table and chairs making it an eat-in kitchen. I decided to build an L shaped bench in the corner rather than chairs, giving it a more custom look. And to make it challenging (and get the look I want), it doesn't have legs or storage underneath to support it. The banquette ...
They Dropped the Ball, So I Picked it Up - Making the Ultimate Portable Workbench
Просмотров 158 тыс.8 месяцев назад
I designed this project a few years ago and it's based on the Workmate idea where you have a built-in vise on the top for clamping. It also has a two-step step ladder and folds for more compact storage. Last but not least, it folds shorter - the lower parts of the legs fold under, making the bench closer to the ground. I consider this to be a working prototype and I may make a final version (wi...
Here's What Happens When a Carpenter does Electronics

The outside of the case is made from solid maple and the top panel is 1/8" thick aluminum painted black. I finished the wood with three coats of waterbased polyurethane. I love the simple, clean lines and the stark contrast between the painted black parts and the warm natural wood and amber glow from the meters. The project uses an LM4780 dual channel chip amp that can put out around 50 watts r...
Making a Modern Kitchen Island - Full Build Video
Просмотров 236 тыс.11 месяцев назад
While I say this is a full build, I haven't made the drawers that will go in this island yet. That will be a project video on its own in the near future. I've been planning this project for years and went through several different designs before settling on this one. My kitchen is fairly big (for such a small house) and it can easily accommodate an island this size. The top is 60" long, 38" fro...
Amazing Sound and Cool Unique Design - How I Made These Slim Open Baffle Speakers
Просмотров 90 тыс.11 месяцев назад
I made these to work with the main speakers in my dedicated listening room. They act similar to side surround speakers and don't put out much bass. But with a separate subwoofer, these sound very good indeed. They are open baffle, in that they don't have a box. Making a speaker that way has some advantages, in that it put out sound from the rear as well that can sound more "full" and "open" and...

Hi. Very nice. I was wandering why you opted for a flat bar to lock the back rather than a round pin which would be far more accurate and then add a thin steel or aluminium strip along the back edge of your table for contact?

Thanks for the concession of making this tool in wood. I know you have your heart set in working with your new media of plastic, but for me there is just something about wood that says craftsmanship. This is a completely subjective observation on my part, kind of like asking why one prefers green over blue, or Spanish Classical Guitar to Heavy Metal. Great video John thumbs up.

Too cool. I'm definitely going to print a couple of these. I always thought your creations in wood were pretty innovative but your 3D prints are a whole new level. I don't know where you find the time to learn the modelling software, I've been slowly learning over years, but I'm glad you do. Some great stuff John. Are most of your tool/jig prints in ABS? I might've missed where you mentioned it.
